Over the last few decades we have taken social responsibility on as a core value for our organization’s strategy, and we are committed to sharing its importance with our business partners in order to promote ethical and transparent behavior.
Achieving the sustainable development of any organization requires a constant commitment to meeting the needs of the present, but never compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
As such, we help organizations with the development and design of corporate and social responsibility plans that take into account their business sector, maximizing the economic and social impact on organizations.

Sensible energy consumption in human activities is of extreme importance since these resources are finite, extremely scarce and unequally distributed. Therefore, it is very important to provide tools to support the decision-making process, that also allows the various economic sectors to effectively manage the energy resources used in their activities.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical and electronic equipment to operate properly and as expected in their intended electromagnetic environment, without causing electromagnetic disturbances that interfere with other nearby equipment.
In Europe, all electronic devices, whether powered by the electricity grid or batteries, must comply with Directive 2014/30/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) – unless they have some form of intentional radio frequency communication, in which case their electromagnetic compatibility comes under the scope of Directive 2014/53/EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED). These Directives (EMC and RED) aim to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment have adequate levels of immunity while not causing disturbances that are too high.
IEP’s laboratories have more than three decades’ experience of assessing EMC phenomena in electrical and electronic equipment, supporting manufacturers at all stages of the product development cycle, from design to their compliance certification with applicable standards and directives.
Human exposure to electromagnetic fields is an increasing concern, both for health authorities and for the general population.
Current regulations on the protection of individuals from the health and safety risks that may result from exposure to electromagnetic fields, with a particular focus on occupational exposure, require assessments of this physical agent.
IEP’s laboratory has extensive experience in this type of assessment and is accredited by IPAC to carry out tests under the scope of ministerial order 1421/2004 and Directive 2013/35/EU (transposed in Portugal by Law 64/2017).

INDUSTRIAL X-RAY
AJL provides a wide range of x-ray services for a wide range of applications and industries.
Gamma Radiation (Iridium source and Selenium source) and X-Ray equipment (up to 300 kV) are used for welding (piping or pressure equipment), cast or forged.

Digital X-ray is a form of X-ray imaging where digital sensors are used instead of traditional radiographic film. Some of its advantages include:
– Reduced exposure;
– A smaller safety perimeter;
– No need for films or chemicals associated with traditional image development.

Visual inspection is the preferred method of non-destructive examination to ensure that the welding process is executed correctly and according to applicable standards. AJL always strives to innovate when it comes to NDT methods. It has a portable three-dimensional laser measurement system at its disposal for the visual inspection of welds. This simplifies the inspection process and ensures the best testing practices.
Induced currents are a conductive material inspection technique to detect surface cracks, pitting, thickness loss and other discontinuities. Some of its advantages include:
– The ability to inspect hard-to-reach places;
– A wide range of applications such as tubular beam inspections of heat exchangers within the fossil fuel and petrochemical industries.
The Phased Array technique is an advanced ultrasonic inspection technique that allows for the detection of internal defects. Phased Arrays produce clear, reliable and precise images in a quick and efficient manner. This technique is seen as a viable alternative to X-rays.
Acoustic Pulse Reflectometry is a technology based on the emission of an acoustic pulse and the reception of the reflected acoustic wave. APR is used to accurately detect blockages (either total or partial), corrosion, erosion, perforations and pittings.
A leak test can be performed using several techniques. European standard EN 1779:1999 sets out 17 techniques, which can be grouped into five categories. Depending on the chosen technique, the test’s sensitivity can vary. The aforementioned standard also defines the limits normally obtained from industrial tests.
