In the field of electrical installations, IEP works on a wide range of activities, including inspections of electrical facilities, self-consumption system audits (inspection of implementation and installation of photovoltaic systems), metering system audits (validation of meters and ensuring communications are operational), measuring ground resistance, potential gradient, ground continuity and resistance, as well as issuing technical reports on electricity, including analyses of electrical facilities design projects.<\/p>\n

In the regulatory area, specifically, as part of the electrical installations regime, as published in Decree-Law No. 96\/2017 of August 10, and as an Inspection Entity for Electrical Installations, IEP conducts inspections of Type A and Type C electrical installations.<\/p>\n

The ever-increasing exchange of products on a global scale, so typical of today\u2019s markets, has led to a need to encourage trust between everyone involved \u2013 manufacturers, consumers and official bodies \u2013 in a technically credible manner, but which is also compatible with a reduced \u201ctime to market\u201d of most current products. This, in turn, has led to the increasing adoption of technical standards in the European Union\u2019s regulations and in the legislation of its Member States, which have converged on essential product requirements. As such, there is a need to assess compliance of electrical and electronic products in order to be granted the CE marking required in the European market, covering safety requirements (Low Voltage Directive), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC Directive) and energy efficiency (EcoDesign and Energy Labeling Directives), among others.<\/p>\n

IEP\u2019s laboratories provide manufacturers with a wide range of electrical and electronic product testing, based on European and international standards, for assessment of the compliance of these products.<\/p>\n

These laboratories are accredited by the Portuguese Institute for Accreditation \u2013 IPAC. Thanks to the EA and ILAC agreements, of which Portugal is a signatory, the tests carried out by IEP are officially recognized throughout the world.<\/p>\n

IEP\u2019s laboratories are also recognized in Europe by ETICS \u2013 European Testing, Inspection and Certification System (ENEC, KEYMARK and CCA agreements) and internationally by the IECEE \u2013 International Electrotechnical Commission System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (CB agreements). Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical and electronic equipment to operate properly and as expected in their intended electromagnetic environment, without causing electromagnetic disturbances that interfere with other nearby equipment.<\/p>\n

In Europe, all electronic devices, whether powered by the electricity grid or batteries, must comply with Directive 2014\/30\/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) \u2013 unless they have some form of intentional radio frequency communication, in which case their electromagnetic compatibility comes under the scope of Directive 2014\/53\/EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED). These Directives (EMC and RED) aim to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment have adequate levels of immunity while not causing disturbances that are too high.<\/p>\n

Human exposure to electromagnetic fields is an increasing concern, both for health authorities and for the general population.<\/p>\n
