COMMUNICATIONS

Communications are a crucial part of IEP’s activity.

We have extensive experience in providing services to the largest Iberian operators, including training and certifying technicians, performing laboratory tests, certifying optical links, assessing communication antennas, calibrating machinery/equipment, among other services.

Inspection of facilities and structures, component testing, equipment and systems testing, and technical consulting and training make a significant contribution to improving the quality of services provided by telecommunications operators.

IEP is also the only recognized entity in Portugal, and one of the few in Europe, < accredited to certify vehicle eCall systems in emergency situations.

In the field of electrical installations, IEP works on a wide range of activities, including inspections of electrical facilities, self-consumption system audits (inspection of implementation and installation of photovoltaic systems), metering system audits (validation of meters and ensuring communications are operational), measuring ground resistance, potential gradient, ground continuity and resistance, as well as issuing technical reports on electricity, including analyses of electrical facilities design projects.

In the regulatory area, specifically, as part of the electrical installations regime, as published in Decree-Law No. 96/2017 of August 10, and as an Inspection Entity for Electrical Installations, IEP conducts inspections of Type A and Type C electrical installations.

IEP has built a specific website for Electrical Inspections to submit inspection requests with automatic payments simply and effectively.

Health and Safety at Work

Nowadays, environmental issues are an ever-growing concern. With the aim of building a sustainable world, IEP has developed a range of services that allow us to respond not only to legal requirements but also to provide companies with higher standards in their respect for an improved environment.

IEP, therefore, provides environmental consulting services (system implementation, environmental licensing), circular economy consulting, environmental characterization consulting (noise, gas emissions, effluents), equipment and product characterization consulting (energy label, ROHS), among others.

To carry out these services, IEP has a team of qualified technicians at its disposal, as well as the right equipment to allow it to respond effectively to its clients’ needs.

Many of the services offered are carried out by the several accredited laboratories that are part of this institute.

Over the last few decades, we have been part of major safety projects carried out in the business sector as well as in public network infrastructure.

We draft emergency plans and health and safety plans, assess industrial, technological and professional risks, and recommend self-protection measures.

We implement health and safety at work systems and carry out internal audits.

We are also responsible for the organization of external OSH services for national companies in every business sector.

ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY

ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS

+

The ever-increasing exchange of products on a global scale, so typical of today’s markets, has led to a need to encourage trust between everyone involved – manufacturers, consumers and official bodies – in a technically credible manner, but which is also compatible with a reduced “time to market” of most current products. This, in turn, has led to the increasing adoption of technical standards in the European Union’s regulations and in the legislation of its Member States, which have converged on essential product requirements. As such, there is a need to assess compliance of electrical and electronic products in order to be granted the CE marking required in the European market, covering safety requirements (Low Voltage Directive), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC Directive) and energy efficiency (EcoDesign and Energy Labeling Directives), among others.

IEP’s laboratories provide manufacturers with a wide range of electrical and electronic product testing, based on European and international standards, for assessment of the compliance of these products.

These laboratories are accredited by the Portuguese Institute for Accreditation – IPAC. Thanks to the EA and ILAC agreements, of which Portugal is a signatory, the tests carried out by IEP are officially recognized throughout the world.

IEP’s laboratories are also recognized in Europe by ETICS – European Testing, Inspection and Certification System (ENEC, KEYMARK and CCA agreements) and internationally by the IECEE – International Electrotechnical Commission System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (CB agreements). Thanks to these agreements, manufacturers that turn to IEP for the certification of their electrical and electronic products have direct access to the certification marks used in many other countries.

Check here our list of tests under intermediate flexible accreditation.

 > PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical and electronic equipment to operate properly and as expected in their intended electromagnetic environment, without causing electromagnetic disturbances that interfere with other nearby equipment.

In Europe, all electronic devices, whether powered by the electricity grid or batteries, must comply with Directive 2014/30/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMC) – unless they have some form of intentional radio frequency communication, in which case their electromagnetic compatibility comes under the scope of Directive 2014/53/EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED). These Directives (EMC and RED) aim to ensure that electrical and electronic equipment have adequate levels of immunity while not causing disturbances that are too high.

IEP’s laboratories have more than three decades’ experience of assessing EMC phenomena in electrical and electronic equipment, supporting manufacturers at all stages of the product development cycle, from design to their compliance certification with applicable standards and directives.

 >  IMUNITY

 >  EMISSION

Human exposure to electromagnetic fields is an increasing concern, both for health authorities and for the general population.

Current regulations on the protection of individuals from the health and safety risks that may result from exposure to electromagnetic fields, with a particular focus on occupational exposure, require assessments of this physical agent.

IEP’s laboratory has extensive experience in this type of assessment and is accredited by IPAC to carry out tests under the scope of ministerial order 1421/2004 and Directive 2013/35/EU (transposed in Portugal by Law 64/2017).

DUE DILIGENCE OF LARGE INFRASTRUCTURE

+

IEP provides UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) remote inspection services. These consist of visual and thermographic inspections, with georeferencing identification, along with photographic and/or video records and subsequent analysis of any anomalies found. This service is extremely advantageous, as it allows inspections of hard-to-reach places or very large sites.

IEP has extensive technical, standardization and regulatory experience within the electrical, telecommunications, and infrastructure sectors. We propose to make our experience available to the market in valuing renewable energy production assets (solar and wind power), both for new infrastructure (project valuation, construction supervision, final acceptance and validation of yearly production estimates) and for existing infrastructure being sold (standards and regulatory compliance, conservation and maintenance, performance analysis, etc.).
