UAV REMOTE INSPECTION PROJECT

Anomalies in Wind Turbine Blades.

DESCRIPTION:
The use of wind turbines to produce energy involves many critical maintenance challenges. Blade inspection and maintenance requires constant action and poses serious operational hazards (work is conducted while suspended on a rope).

PROBLEM:
Is it possible to fully replace the inspection of turbine blades with remote inspection techniques?

APPROACH:
Inspections via rope have specific advantages, namely the ability to touch, feel, and carry out small repairs. Remote inspections via UAV ensure a safe, fast and resilient operation.

CONCLUSION:
To guarantee the automation of data collection tasks via the acquisition of high-resolution images with aided by thermal imagery and to find methodologies that replace the advantages of direct contact with the blades (touch).
